Need to add additional NIC to SQL cluster - to enable teaming.

Hi
I have 2 questions, but related!
We currently have a Windows 2000 Adv server running SQL Ent 2000 as a 2 node
cluster.
Each node currently has 2 NICs installed, one NIC for the local heartbeat
and the other for the LAN connection.
We now need to add another NIC to each cluster node for failover resillience
on the LAN connection.
The idea is to add the extra NIC, so that we can implement teaming on 2
NICs.
1.What needs to be done to the cluster in order to achieve this and ensure
that the cluster still functions as per normal.
2. The installed NIC has 2 ports, so i assume that additional NIC purchased
may be different, my guess is that teaming different type NIC cards is not a
good idea, therefore i would like to reconfigure for the teaming to be on
the NIC with the 2 ports and the heartbeat on the newly purchased NIC. - Is
this a big job- what needs to be carried out in order to achive this!!!

A properly configured TEAM is not seen by the cluster. In other words, its
seamless. It just works like a single NIC and the Cluster is never the wiser
Cool huh?

Take everything offline - cluster services and all resources. Change the
IP's on the NIC - on each node. Do a few ping tests to verify things are
working. Start the cluster service and use "." to start the Cluster
Administrator.
Use these for information:

Good luck, its really not that bad.

Need to add additional NIC to SQL Cluster

Hi
We recently built a W2K Advanced server, SQL Ent 2000 cluster.
Each node of the cluster had 2 NIC ports:
1 NIC was used for Cross over cable
Other NIC was used for LAN.
All standard build servers in our environment should have 2 NIC
connections - one going to our normal lan and the other nic connected to the
backup lan.
The powers at be we notified that the cluster was short of one NIC, but the
build was santioned to go ahead.
I now need to know what i need to do in order to add the additional nic to
the cluster and for everything to remain ok...
Please advise...
Cheers Ray
It will depend on the hardware, but basically you would buy a nic,
physically put it in the machine, load the drivers, and configure it with
the appropriate IP settings.

|||Add the nic. Put it on the backup network. In the cluster uncheck the box
for that new NIC that allows it to function in the cluster
