Need suggestion for reports software

Hi,

We have Visual Studio 2005 , Crystal Reports, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.

our Manager asked about the best and easiest reporting software other than Crystal Reports.

I didn't work with reports. Please assist me, if any one have idea.

Thanks in advance

Regards

Jyothi

I have worked with crystal reports and Sql Server Reporting Services and SSRS for all its problems, beats crystal and not just on price. The points with SSRS to watch are:

Choose the right style at the outset as difficult to change afterwards.|||

I tried Crystal it is expensive but has a lot of predefined functions that SSRS doesn't. But I elected to you SSRS I like it better it is easy to use and very flexible. I just wish it would conform to the same formats as excel. I found out you can not have over 160 in in viewable colum space width. Excel allows 256...

Hello,

I'm currently working on SQL Reports and found out that they are better than Crystal and DEV express reports. I'm implementing a localisation functionality with ASP.net and they are very flexible.

Here are the key features.

1- Easy to integrate with ASP.net site

2- Build custom assembly and use it in your report or use VB for embeded coding.

3- Free of cost with SQL Express.

4- Plenty of support/samples and knowledge base.

5- Free of cost report designer (Business IntelligenceProject)

Thanks,

Farooq

Apart from connection pooling I don't know of any third party product that
does anything like this.
For example see http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms716319.aspx

Need SQL 7 Enterprise Manager

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of Enterprise Manager? I have the trial copy of 2000, but I need to administer data on a SQL 7 server, and I cannot create stored procedures, add users, or create DTS packages in 2000 that will work on SQL 7.
Thanks! You should install client tools for ver.7 to accomplish that task. May borrow CD from a friend or SQL homepage and go thru support for a valid link.|||SQL 2000 Client side tools will admin both SQL 2k and SQL 7...

AND you can buy a developer addition for US$49 directly from M$...

It's a full blow Enterprise edition as well, including the tools...

Good Luck|||I can sell you one. $899 with a professional discount ;)|||If you create DTS packages using SQL 2K EM it will not work on SQL 7 server. You must have similar MDAC when you design DTS.|||And more accurately, you must have the same version and SP level (MDAC is controlled by service pack on both client and server.)|||Originally posted by Satya

What are you guys talking about?

I just did it...do you mean as a scheduled package?

I'm confused...|||Brett,

You CAN create and interactively execute a package using SQL2K client tools on any server. When you do it on SQL7, no server-initiated execution of this package will succeed. If you do it on a SQL2K server with lower SP than your client's machine, the result will be the same as with SQL7. The only time it will yield a successful execution will be when the server's SP level is the same or higher than your client's.

Here ya go....|||Originally posted by Satya

Unfortunately, I can't find anyone who has the CD. I looked on MS website, but couldn't seem to get to anything about SQL 7. Where is the SQL homepage?
Thanks for your help.|||Originally posted by rdjabarov

Brett,
This is what I found out - you can create and execute the package manually using EM 2K, but it will not run on a 7.0 scheduler. Also, you can't get in to add users, which, at this point is what I really need to do. And if you open a package you created in 7.0 and save it from 2K, it won't work anymore.|||Whereabouts you're based, I can lend you Ver.7 tools.

Need Query For 'Enforce relationship fo replication'

Hi,
I am dealing with merge replication.
In enterprise manager --> design --> relationship - there is an option
'Enforce relationship for replication'.
Is it possible to identify the status (whether checked/unchecked) of this
option for a particular table through query? I need to identify this for all
the tables in the database.
Please advise
Thanks,
Soura
Soura,
I keep a list of this type of query at
http://www.replicationanswers.com/Scripts.asp. For your needs, I think this
should be it...
select table_name, constraint_name from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLE_CONSTRAINTS
where constraint_type = 'foreign key'
and objectproperty(object_id(constraint_name),'CnstIsN otRepl') = 0

Need help! Used Space in dB and Tran files

I have a database about 39GB in size and is running out of allocated space. In the Enterprise Manager the properties for this dB, show that there is 0.00MB space available. I need to increase the size of the dB.

What I need to find out is, which file group is full so I can expand the appropriate file group instead of expanding all the filegroups. Also, is there a way to find the space usage of each file in the file group and also the Transaction log?

db Size 39GB
14 File Groups
17 database files (mdf & ndf)
2 Transaction Log files
180 Tables

I am aware of the sp_spaceused, but the information it furnishes is not enough for me to make a decision.

Need help urgently!!!!check this query out and see if this will be of any help:

select [Allocated_Size_MB]=size*8/1024, [Max_Size_MB]=maxsize*8/1024, name from sysfiles|||Thanks for your reply. The results from the query give me the allocated size.
How can I find the "used" space (or free/available space) in this allocated space?
